Анотація

The topicality of the study is determined by the deeper insight of metonymic transitions’ problem as a phenomenon of secondary nomination in general, and synecdoche as its type in particular, which is characterized by high productivity and semantic and stylistic facilities of the content of newspaper information report’s actualization. Quantitative metonymy is associated with such phenomena of the development of semantics of the word, which are most clearly revealed in the text. That is why the object of our study is synecdoche, which actively functions on the pages of contemporary Ukrainian-language mediatexts. In the article we aim to study the semantic nature of synecdoche as the type of metonymy represented in the language of modern mass media. The objective foresees solving of the following tasks: 1) to analyze the works of scholars who dealt with synecdoche as the theoretical basis for studying the phenomenon of secondary nomination in the language practice of the newspaper; 2) to find out typical models of quantitative metonymy in the studied sources; 3) to find out the specifics of the functional load of synecdoche in the language of the information newspaper text. Consequently, synecdoche is interpreted as one of the types of metonymy, in particular the quantitative type of semantic transference. The studied informational style represents definite models of synecdoche using. In the information texts the designs with quantitative metonymy are widely represented by synecdoche, which functions as means of secondary nomination in the newspaper text in general. The defining principle of information style formation, which is the combination of standard and expression, determines the peculiarities of the implementation of the phenomenon of secondary nomination within its frameworks. This principle is in the basis of the distinction between non-figurative (actually informative) and figurative (evaluated) communicative structures of the secondary nomination. Synecdoche as the types of metonymy has two main models of transferring «part» → «whole» and «whole» → «part». Thus, the analysis carried out, testifies to the fact that in the various genres of the newspaper text, the functional effect of metonymy’s influence on the reader as a whole and its variety, synecdoche in particular, is a productive linguistic phenomenon. Synecdoche, as metonymy, provides the compression of newspaper information, and it also has a purposeful generalizing character.Modern newspaper language evolves to the actualization of synecdoche as the type of metonymic and metaphorical imagery. Therefore, we consider the further analysis of the used typical models with quantitative metonymy on the pages of modern Ukrainian-language newspapers as the perspective one.
