We have attempted for diverse understanding of this phenomenon trying to find answer to the question: is it possible to love Ukraine with «the language of the occupier»? The formation of the Russian-speaking Ukrainian patriotism throughout history was investigated. The position «for» and «against» the existence of this phenomenon was described and analyzed. The prospects of development in Ukraine of Ukrainian and Russian languages were studied. Coming to Ukraine as the language of the occupier, Russian gradually began to be not only the factor of russification of Ukrainians, but also – sometimes – to become an instrument of the pro-Ukrainian position. In the present circumstances the particular Russian-speaking Ukrainian may be an ardent patriot of his country, even willing to fight for it with arms in his hands. In Ukraine there are different positions regarding the problem of possibility-impossibility, appropriateness-inappropriateness of the existence of the phenomenon of Russian-speaking Ukrainian patriotism. At the same time, in the framework of this debate, we can highlight some factual material. At first, it gives reason to believe that historically Russian in Ukraine is «the language of the occupier», and secondly, proves that with this language it is still possible to sincerely love Ukraine. Speaking Russian you can fight and even die for Ukraine. The existence of the phenomenon of Russian-Ukrainian patriotism does not absolve us from the obligation to study Ukrainian language, to develop and constantly expand the boundaries of its application. At the same time, Ukraine has all prospects for uncertain period of time to remain a bilingual country. Language policy of Ukraine needs to be thought out, balanced and incredibly wise.  The rights and freedoms of all citizens must be taken into account and, simultaneously, we must respond effectively to external attempts once again to play the «language card». Concerning all this, further research of the designated problem is promising and relevant.Key words: patriotism, Ukrainian language, Russian language, hate, love. ER -
