In a short period of active development, feminine literature has managed to achieve qualitative changes in rethinking the place of women in the patriarchal world. Women-writers, along with male writers, demonstrate a bold, adequate and accurate response to current issues, resort to the search for original artistic strategies for understanding reality. Different generations of modern Ukrainian women's prose demonstrate original artistic strategies for understanding the war in eastern Ukraine. This makes their artwork the most favorable material for studying the influence of women's prose with its powerful flow of subjectivity, deep psychologism, tendency to revise the patriarchal system of modern society and openly male military themes. The novel of Haska Shyian «Behind the Back» (awarded European Union Literary Prize - 2019) is direct evidence of this. The need to give a voice to women whose husbands are at war helped the young writer to dispel all internal doubts and to boldly cover the unattractive, irritating and painful problems of the emancipated woman's revision, which was catalyzed by the need to protect the country's territorial and mental integrity.Purpose. The purpose of our work is to identify the specifics of the artistic interpretation of the real military situation, presented through a woman's view in H. Shyian's novel «Behind the Back», to identify ways of articulating traumatic military experience that determine the identity and success of the writer's chosen artistic model / strategy. The relevance and novelty of the study is explained by the lack of a thorough study of modern women's military prose as a phenomenon, as well as the fact that the novel «Behind the Back» has not yet become the subject of full scientific research.Methods. Biographical, comparative, psychoanalytic and hermeneutic methods of research of literary phenomena are used in the work.Results. The artistic strategy of understanding the war in the East of Ukraine chosen by Haska Shyian is analyzed. The specifics of the artistic model of the military conflict proposed in the text, which is one of the brightest in modern Ukrainian women's prose, are revealed. The reasons for addressing the topic of war, ways to obtain the necessary material for the creation of an artistic text, means and ways of articulating traumatic military experience are outlined. It was found out that it was in the novel «Behind the Back» that urgent problems were first brought to the attention of the general situation on the eastern borders of the Fatherland (imperfect state program of psychological, physical and social rehabilitation of ATO soldiers; imposed recognition by different generations of compatriots of the heroic contribution of the fallen and veterans in defending the independence of the state, which is compromised primarily by the remnants of the Soviet era, negative trends associated with society currently available forms and means of patriotic education of the younger generation, etc.). Also, the artistic text of Haska Shyіan can be called a perfect example of feminine-centric writing, given perhaps the most textured, naturalistic and masterful reproduction of female corporeality.Discussion. Modern women's military prose declares the continuation of the strategy of feminization (and, consequently, liberalization of society) by introducing women's values, open articulation of women's experience (acceptance or rejection of motherhood, gender identification, corporality, sensuality, women's place in war, voicing issues of war), emancipation, etc.). Haska Shyian's novel «Behind the Back» takes an important step towards a more rapid revision and final eradication of stereotypical prejudices about a particular gender, restoration of parity and equality in the process of creating modern Ukrainian literature, which performs an important function of consolidation, slows down the process of assimilation -under the power of ideological, colonial, post-totalitarian and other destructive discourses.
